My Cucumber Vertical Sack Farm

My Cucumber Vertical Sack Farm

Using empty cement bags for vertical sack farming is a great idea as it is an affordable and easily available option. It is important to wash the bags thoroughly to remove any dirt or chemicals that may be harmful to the plants. Filling the bags with soil and manure is a good way to provide the necessary nutrients for the plants to grow. However, it is important to make sure that the soil and manure are of good quality and free from any harmful substances. In addition, proper drainage should be ensured to prevent waterlogging, which can be detrimental to the plants. Overall, using sacks for vertical farming is a great way to utilize limited space and grow crops in a sustainable and cost-effective manner.

Vertical sack farming indeed offers a great advantage when it comes to space conservation. By growing plants vertically, you can maximize the use of limited space and increase crop yield per unit area. Compared to traditional farming methods, where crops are grown in rows on the ground, vertical sack farming allows for more efficient use of space, making it an ideal option for small-scale farming or urban gardening.

In addition to space conservation, vertical sack farming also offers other advantages such as easier maintenance, better pest control, and improved soil quality. Since plants are grown in bags filled with soil and manure, you can easily monitor and control the soil moisture and nutrient levels. This results in healthier plants with fewer pest problems and a reduced need for pesticides.

Vertical sack farming also provides better soil quality as the bags can be easily moved or rotated, preventing soil erosion and compaction. Additionally, the bags can be reused for several planting seasons, reducing the need for continuous soil replenishment or land clearing.

In vertical sack farming, water and nutrients can be conserved more efficiently because the soil is contained within the sack. This means that water and nutrients can be directed specifically to the plants, reducing the amount of water and fertilizer needed overall. Additionally, the sacks can be placed in areas where drainage is poor, allowing for better water retention and minimizing nutrient leaching.

In vertical sack farming, weeds can be easily controlled as they are less likely to grow in the sacks compared to traditional farming methods. This is because the sacks are filled with soil that has been thoroughly cleaned and the sacks are kept off the ground, reducing the chances of weed seeds finding their way into the growing medium. This makes it easier for farmers to manage weed growth and prevent them from competing with the crops for nutrients and water

Application of Nutrients: Application of nutrients to crops becomes easier with vertical sack farming. Plants in vertical sack can enjoy their meal of compost tea without the usual harassment from competing weeds, they grow more healthier and yield great fruits. In organic farming, we have incorporated a series of nutrient supplements that can be produced from materials sourced locally for the plants.

In this blog you will find how to implement comprehensive nutrition supplements for plants to enhance productivity using locally sourced materials in subsequent posts.

Trellis: Making trellis for cucumbers can be the best thing you can do for your cucumber to make them happy! As you already know, they don't like crowding, so trellis create the much needed space for them to explore their world...Besides, it allows for efficient Pests and diseases control management. It also makes harvest easy and keep the produce clean free from soil borne diseases and stress.

If you are in Nigeria, you can visit our demonstration farm to see if you can implement yours. We will be glad to welcome you.
Sweet Cucumber Plants: Cucumber are beautiful plants a serious farmer should contemplate growing. Harvesting is fast and they can produce fruits very fast too. They are what I call a cash cow to make money really fast as a farmer.

Fast growth: Cucumber grows very fast, as a result it's a quick yielding crop vegetable farmers can explore. Growing them organically requires a lot of effort though but it's worthwhile...Deploying a vertical sack farming method reduces the heavy burden of weeding and space
Bamboo Staking: I deployed bamboo to stake my cucumber. I find it very cheat and easy to use.

Cucumber Fruits: Getting cucumber to fruit is an exciting pastime all cucumber farmers would love to see every day...but don't mess it up with poor pest management...Pests love the fruits as much as we do...it is as if their lives depends on it.
